Fertility medicines and LH tests: Checking Which Results You Can Use
Once fertility treatment starts, a home ovulation result may no longer have the same meaning it had during an untreated cycle. Tell the clinic exactly which test you use and ask whether its results belong in the treatment plan.
Some medicines can affect the reading
Treatments containing LH or hCG can interfere with some ovulation tests. Other treatments may change cycle timing or affect an earlier high fertility reading on a device that measures more than one hormone.
The effect depends on both the medicine and the test. It is not safe to assume that every fertility medicine causes the same interference, or that a result from one product applies to another. Read the medicine and test information with your clinician or pharmacist.
Ask what the clinic wants you to measure
The team may use blood tests, ultrasound or a specific home testing routine for a defined purpose. Ask which results you should report and what to do if they differ from a home kit.
The ovulation confirmation guide explains why different tests answer different questions. A home strip cannot replace monitoring that was selected for your treatment.
Keep doses and procedure dates within the agreed plan
Do not alter a medicine dose, injection time, insemination appointment or other procedure because an extra home test looks different. Contact the clinic when you are unsure which instruction to follow.
Write down the medicine name, dose time, product name and result time before calling. That is more useful than reporting only that the test was positive. Our cycle record guide suggests a concise way to organize the information.
Agree on the plan for uncertainty
Before treatment begins, ask whom to contact outside usual hours and what should happen if a required test is missed or unreadable. Keep the written instructions accessible.
You can also ask whether to stop using optional tests that add confusion. The goal is to follow an interpretable treatment plan, not to collect the greatest number of results.
